“It is possible that the entire universe, matter, radiation, and even space itself could arise spontaneously out of nothing, without explicit divine intervention”.
Letter to the Editor
I am responding to the article “Universe Without Design” by Lawrence M. Krauss.
Krauss states that “it is possible that the entire universe, matter, radiation, and even space itself could arise spontaneously out of nothing, without explicit divine intervention”. He sees this as “a kind of cosmic accident” that apparently just happened to form. Krauss also states that the 100 billion galaxies in the observable universe were contained in a volume smaller than the size of a single atom prior to the Big Bang 13.7 billion years ago.
Krauss claims that if we just wait long enough, something can come from nothing spontaneously, and then come to life; that great order and 100 billion galaxies can come from the explosion of something smaller than a single atom. Although this sounds like it came from Dr. Seuss, or perhaps someone on LSD, Kraus’s claim is real, and embraced by many scientists. Even more stunning is Krauss’s claim that is all scientific. By the way, science depends on observation, and the only who was present at creation was God, who reported on the creation account in the book of Genesis.
So the Zinger of the Year Award goes to Lawrence M. Krauss, a man who apparently can believe anything. It takes a truly giant leap of faith to believe this rather than believe that the incredible complexity and design of the universe reflects intelligence – that of the sovereign, living God – the creator of the universe.
This latter perspective is confirmed by several thousand creation scientists in this nation, and that an intelligent design movement has emerged from within the evolutionist community (including some prominent evolutionary scientists). These scientists have come to the conclusion that the complexity of the universe cannot be explained by Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution, but reveals evidence of design by a conscious being.
Darwinian evolutionary theory is based on the premise that every change in an organism is (and must be) an improvement for that organization. These scientists have discovered that the cell is more like a mousetrap or internal combustion engine – all of the parts must be present at the same time for it to work. Hence their disenchantment with evolution. All of which is totally consistent with the Biblical account of creation.
Finally, there is one more wrinkle to this discussion, and that the Big Bang was the way in which the Lord created heavens and earth. The Lord spoke the heavens and earth into being, and it was a big bang.
Best regards,
